Beyond Sunday Liturgy

Teach children not only how to correctly receive a blessing from the priest, but also to make room for an old man, offer a hand to a woman exiting a bus, and do all of this for the sake of Christ ... Religious education begins not only when a mother teaches a child to read, 'Our Father,' but also when a father teaches his son to thank his mother for a laundered shirt and a cooked dinner.

+Fr. Alexander Ovcharenko

Children learn best when they put to practice that which they are told to do. This is true of adults as well. While we may hold Christ in our hearts, if we do not reflect him in our works, St. James plainly puts it “, faith without works is dead.” Each day we are given opportunities to show our love for Christ in the mundane. We must teach our children that our faith lives on beyond our Sunday liturgies. This is because our faith is not merely a religion, it is a way of life. Christ is in our midst at every moment of the day no matter where we are or what we are doing. Therefore, in all things may we reflect our love of Christ in the way we talk and treat the people in our lives and in all the tasks we accomplish.
